Designed for adventure travelers and Himalayan road trip enthusiasts, this 1 Night 2 Days expedition takes travelers through the breathtaking landscapes of eastern Ladakh, remote mountain valleys, frontier-region roads, and some of the most dramatic high-altitude terrain in India. The journey begins from Leh (approx. 3,500m) and continues through Upshi, Chumathang, Nyoma, and Hanle while offering stunning views of rugged mountains, river valleys, isolated Himalayan settlements, and remote military roads. Travelers experience changing terrain, dramatic landscapes, and the raw beauty of Ladakh throughout the route. Overnight stay will be arranged in a budget homestay or guesthouse in Hanle village, one of Ladakh’s most peaceful and remote high-altitude settlements known for its scenic landscapes and unique Himalayan atmosphere. On the second day, the expedition continues towards Umling La Pass where travelers witness one of the most extreme and iconic high-altitude road experiences in the world before returning back to Leh by evening. This expedition is focused primarily on the road journey and extreme Himalayan experience rather than luxury travel or detailed sightseeing exploration. Due to the challenging terrain and extreme altitude conditions, proper acclimatization before joining the expedition is strongly recommended.

Itinerary With Map

Day 1: Leh to Hanle via Tanglang La & Chumathang

The expedition begins early morning from Leh (approx. 3,500m) as travelers start their journey towards the remote frontier regions of eastern Ladakh in a shared SUV. Travel through the scenic Manali-Leh Highway while gradually ascending towards Tanglang La (Approx. 5,328m), one of the highest motorable mountain passes in the world offering breathtaking panoramic Himalayan views. After crossing Tanglang La, continue through Upshi and towards Chumathang, a beautiful Himalayan settlement known for its natural hot springs, dramatic mountain scenery, and riverside landscapes. The route offers changing terrain, rugged mountain roads, isolated valleys, and raw Himalayan landscapes throughout the journey. Continue the drive through Nyoma and remote frontier-region roads before reaching Hanle village (approx. 4,250m), one of Ladakh’s most peaceful and isolated high-altitude settlements known for its scenic landscapes and remote Himalayan atmosphere. As this package does not include accommodation arrangements, travelers may proceed towards their separately booked stay/homestay in Hanle or nearby regions at their own arrangements.

Important Notes

This is a shared SUV frontier-region expedition focused primarily on the road journey and extreme Himalayan experience rather than luxury travel or detailed sightseeing exploration.
A minimum of 2–3 days of proper acclimatization in Leh is mandatory before joining this expedition.
This package does not include accommodation/stay arrangements. Travelers planning overnight halts during the expedition must arrange their stay separately.
Seat allocation in shared vehicles is managed operationally and specific seat preferences are not guaranteed.
The journey involves long driving hours through remote mountain terrain, rugged roads, loose gravel sections, and high-altitude frontier routes.
The visit to Umling La (Approx. 5,798m) is subject to road conditions, military regulations, weather conditions, and operational accessibility at the time of travel.
Carry warm clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, hydration supplies, energy snacks, and personal medications.
Basic first aid kit and oxygen cylinder support are available during the journey.
Due to the extreme altitude of Umling La, travelers may experience breathlessness, fatigue, headaches, or AMS symptoms even after acclimatization.
In case a traveler feels unwell during the expedition, basic oxygen and first aid support will be provided wherever operationally possible. Additional evacuation, taxi support, medical transport, or emergency arrangements if required shall be chargeable directly to the traveler.
Only one small backpack or duffle bag per traveler is recommended. Large luggage bags or suitcases are not advisable for this expedition due to limited vehicle space.
Mobile network connectivity may remain limited or unavailable in several sections of the route, especially beyond Nyoma and Hanle.
Travelers are advised to carry sufficient cash as ATMs and digital payment networks may not function reliably in remote regions.
Any delays caused due to snowfall, landslides, roadblocks, military restrictions, weather conditions, traffic, or operational factors are beyond operational control.
