- The river difficulty varies considerably between sections.
- The Mori–Tiuni section is more appropriate for organised tourist rafting than the extreme downstream sections.
- Downstream Tons sections can contain very difficult rapids and should not be offered as a standard tourist product without specialist operators and experienced participants.
- Participants must follow the professional guide's instructions at all times.
- Wear quick-drying clothing and secure footwear.
- Bring a complete change of clothes.
- Avoid carrying loose valuables during rafting.
- Use waterproof equipment for phones/cameras if permitted.
- Uttarakhand's rafting rules specify a rafting season for the Tons from 1 September to 30 June, subject to river-water availability and applicable directions.
- July and August should generally be excluded from the availability calendar unless authorities and the operator confirm otherwise.
- Minimum age and eligibility requirements depend on the selected route and operator.
- Only authorised rafting operators and trained river guides should conduct the activity.
- Participants should arrive at the launch point before the scheduled departure time.
- River conditions should be checked on the day of operation.
