Kandy Lake was created in 1807 under Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, the last king of Kandy.
The complete lakeside walking circuit is approximately 3–3.5 km and takes around 45–60 minutes at a relaxed pace.
Early morning and late afternoon are generally comfortable times for walking and photography.
The route and duration may change according to guest pace, weather, traffic and guide recommendations.
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is an active religious site; modest clothing is required for entry.
The main lakeside route is generally level, but some city streets and viewpoint approaches may include slopes or steps.
Wildlife such as waterbirds and monitor lizards may be observed around the lake, but sightings are not guaranteed.
