Meghalaya: Shillong Don Bosco Indigenous Cultures Museum Tour With Transfers

  • Shillong
  • • Walking Tours
  • • Duration 4 hour

Description

Explore the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures in Shillong through a private guided museum experience with convenient meeting-point transfers.

Located at Mawlai Phudmuri within the Sacred Heart Church complex, the Don Bosco Museum presents the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities from Northeast India through a large collection of artefacts, photographs, traditional clothing, ornaments, musical instruments, agricultural implements, hunting and fishing equipment, traditional technologies and architectural displays.

The seven-storey museum contains themed galleries covering subjects including prehistory, land and peoples, agriculture, traditional technology, basketry, costumes and ornaments, music, housing patterns, religion and culture, art, weapons and Indigenous livelihoods. The museum also features a skywalk offering views over Shillong.

The experience begins with a private transfer from the designated Shillong meeting point. At the museum, the guide leads guests through selected galleries, explaining the traditions, lifestyles, crafts and environments of the Indigenous communities represented. Guests then continue to the upper levels and skywalk, subject to weather and museum access.

The experience is designed as an educational cultural visit rather than a staged tribal performance.

Meeting Instructions: Guests should report 30 minutes before the scheduled activity at the designated meeting point.
