Kenya: Shimba Hills Waterfall Hike with Transfers

  • Kenya
  • • Adventure Activities
  • • Duration 8 hour

Description

Escape the beaches of Diani and hike into the lush coastal forest of Shimba Hills National Reserve on a guided adventure to spectacular Sheldrick Falls. The experience begins with morning hotel pickup and a road transfer from Diani Beach to the reserve, located approximately 31 km from Diani's main area.

After completing park-entry procedures, meet your hiking guide and begin the trail through the forest. The route follows established trails through the reserve's natural landscape, with opportunities to observe birds, butterflies, plants and other signs of wildlife along the way. Shimba Hills is also home to elephants and the last breeding herd of Kenya's rare sable antelope, although wildlife encounters should never be expected or guaranteed during the hike.

The trail eventually reaches Sheldrick Falls, where water cascades through the forest into a natural pool below. Take time to relax, photograph the waterfall and, when conditions are considered safe by the guide, cool off in the pool. Kenya Wildlife Service specifically promotes hiking in the hills and enjoying the refreshing pool at the foot of Sheldrick Falls.

After resting, return along the forest trail to the vehicle and enjoy a packed lunch before driving back to Diani Beach. This experience is ideal for travelers seeking a dedicated nature-and-waterfall adventure rather than a conventional game-drive safari.
