Skaftafell Glacier Maze: Blue Ice & Crevasse Exploration

  • Falljökull Glacier, Skaftafell, Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland.
  • • Adventure Activities
  • • Duration 4 hour

Description

Discover the extraordinary frozen landscape of Vatnajökull on a guided glacier adventure through the Blue Ice Maze at Skaftafell, Iceland. Explore the natural formations of Falljökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, and experience a landscape shaped by constantly moving ice.

Meet your professional English-speaking glacier guide at the Skaftafell Booking Center before preparing for the excursion. Receive a safety briefing and get fitted with the specialised equipment required for walking on glacier ice.

Follow your guide across the glacier towards the Crevasse Track, a remarkable natural route featuring blue ice formations, towering ice walls and narrow frozen corridors. Discover the textures and colours of glacial ice while learning how glaciers move and develop over time.

Designed for beginners with a reasonable level of physical fitness, this four-hour small-group adventure offers an opportunity to explore the glacier beyond its usual viewpoints. No previous technical glacier experience is required, but participants must be comfortable walking on uneven and slippery terrain.

Glacier conditions and formations change throughout the year. The exact route and exploration areas depend on current ice conditions, weather and the guide's safety assessment. This is a natural glacier environment with inherent outdoor risks, and participants must follow their guide's instructions throughout the experience.
