Assam: Majuli Mask-Making Experience with Transfers

  • Majuli
  • • Workshops & Classes
  • • Duration 3 hour

Description

Discover the traditional Mukha Shilpa, or mask-making art, of Majuli through a guided hands-on cultural experience at Sri Sri Samaguri Satra. The Satra is internationally known for its traditional mask-making practice, a craft that has been preserved across generations and is closely connected with Bhaona, the traditional Assamese theatrical form.

The workshop introduces guests to the materials, construction methods, artistic details and cultural significance of the masks. Depending on the workshop arrangement, participants can observe an artisan demonstration and create or decorate a small souvenir mask under supervision.

The Government of Assam specifically lists a mask-making workshop at Samoguri Satra among Majuli's tourism projects.

Meeting Instructions

Guests should report 15–30 minutes before the scheduled workshop for registration and introduction.
